A transformation of a Gold Coast family business from Thomas-Independent Certification to Thomas-Sear Certification.
Keith and Lorrie Thomas made the decision over 30 years ago, in 1987, to go out on their own. First as building surveying consultants, then later establishing Thomas Independent Certification in 1998. What they didn’t know then, was that years later, they would form part of a transformation of a family business – with daughter Sandra taking over the reins.
New era for Keith
Keith worked at Gold Coast City Council for many years. He wanted the challenge of running his own business.
This was a new era for the building and construction industry. Surveying professionals were moving away from council approvals and into new legislation for private certification.
Over the last 30 years, Keith has worked on many memorable projects including; Gold Coast Convention Centre, Brisbane International Airport, townhouse developments plus many of the Gold Coast’s high rise buildings.
Handing over the reins
After 30 years in the building surveying and certification business, Keith and Lorrie have handed the reins over to Sandra. They are looking forward to some well-earned and much deserved spare time.
Keith will be playing more golf and enjoying drinks with friends. Lorrie is looking forward to more walks on the beach and coffee with loved ones.
The same great service
The business has been in Sandra’s blood since a young age. What Sandra did not know thirty years ago, is that she would go on to become a qualified and licensed Level One Building Surveyor – creating Thomas Sear Certification.
The new business name and changes are the necessary process for Sandra to work as a building surveyor in Brisbane and continue on Keith’s work and projects.
Sandra is in the process of implementing new building certification software to make the approval process easier and more effective.
While working under Keith’s mentoring, Sandra has met many of the companies current and long-standing clients during inspections and meetings and hopes to continue to work with you into the future – creating wonderful, safe and compliant buildings for owners and occupants.
